Kickoff for the Read It Forward program was on March 22, 2011. The program is for 2nd through 4th grade students, teachers, and all staff members. The purpose is to garner excitement for reading, to promote collaboration between students and teachers, and to foster a love of learning for all involved. The book is Dori Hillestad Butler's book, The Case of the Lost Boy. 50 copies of the book are being passed around Calvert. The book is also on the 2011-2012 Bluebonnet Reading List published by the Texas Library Association.
When students finishing reading the book, they sign and date the inside front cover. The student comes to the library to see me, answer a few questions about the book, and make a paw print for our window display. The student will receive a bookmark of his/her choice. Then the student should pass the book along to a friend. Hopefully by the end of the program on May 20, most or all of our 2nd - 4th graders will have read the book.
